The City of Columbus announces it has received a $650,000 grant through the State of Kansas Community Development Block Grant Program.
The grant will be used to help support critical improvements in the city, including a $1.6 million rehabilitation project involving cured-in-place pipe rehabilitation, pipe bursting, and point repairs for a major portion of the city’s sewer system. Construction on the project is expected to begin sometime in 2026.
The CDBG program comes through the Kansas Department of Commerce and is one of the most competitive funding opportunities for communities across the state. By securing this funding, the City of Columbus will be able to move forward with this project without the full cost of the project being paid for by local taxes. The city is in the process of securing a low-interest loan and applying for additional grant funding to further offset project costs.
