Hunting Show Host Banned From Kansas After Illegal Deer Kills

A Georgia hunting show host is permanently banned from hunting and fishing in the State of Kansas after illegally killing two deer in 2022.

35-year-old Matt Jennings who hosts a hunting show called “The Game” received 5 year probation and a lifetime hunting ban in the state. The first incident occurred don November 11, 2022, when Jennings killed an antlered deer near the City of Florence. His tag at the time did not allow him to take a deer in that part of the state. Jennings then drove into Oklahoma and registered the kill in that state using an Oklahoma electronic tag. On November 19, Jennings then shot another antlered deer near WaKeeney. Kansas has a limit of one antlered deer per season. He then featured both kills on his hunting show.

Jennings entered a guilty plea in federal court to two counts of illegal taking of a white tail deer in interstate commerce. He was also ordered to pay $15,000 in restitution to the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, plus a $10,000 fine and to forfeit the antlers of the deer he illegally killed.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks investigated the case, with assistance provided by the U.S. Secret Service, Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, Missouri Department of Conservation, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division.
