The City of Miami honors a nationally known country musician with ties to northeastern Oklahoma.
On Saturday, Miami honored Joe Don Rooney of the band Rascal Flatts and celebrated his induction into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. Rooney was on hand at Saturday's event. He says he was honored to receive the accolades from the area where he grew up.
The 49-year-old Rooney was born in Baxter Springs and grew up in the City of Picher. He attended Northeastern Oklahoma A & M College in Miami. Rooney was honored at the Miami Heritage Days over the weekend, where the City Council and Mayor Bless Parker proclaimed Saturday as Joe Don Rooney Day in Miami.
