A building catches fire in downtown Howard.
Early this morning just before 1 a.m., tankers from the Elk County Rural Fire Department were called to assist the Howard and Moline Fire Departments with support for a structure fire in downtown Howard. The fire was reported in the back of C&O Custom Woodworking. Upon arrival, heavy flames were present in the back of the building and the structure was deemed unsafe, so a defensive position was taken. The fire was contained to the building of origin, however, adjacent buildings suffered light to heavy smoke and water damage. There are no reported injuries at this time.
The street is expected to be blocked off for several hours this morning and crews continue to work.
