Authorities in Cowley County are investigating after human remains are discovered.

 

Just before 3pm Wednesday, Cowley County Sheriff's deputies were called to a residence in the southwestern part of the county after reports that a homeowner had possibly found a body near a pond. When deputies arrived on the scene, the homeowner directed them to the location on private property. The Ark City Fire Department was then called in to assist investigators in retrieving the remains.

 

The identity of the individual has not yet been confirmed, but authorities in nearby Sumner County have reported an active missing person case and are attempting to learn if the remains might be those of the missing individual.

 

An autopsy will be performed at the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center in Wichita to determine the cause of death and conform the identity.
