The Independence City Commission will meet tonight with baseball fields and municipal bonds among items up for discussion.
Commissioners will consider a proposed meeting with USD 446 to discuss the joint use of baseball and softball fields at the Central Park Sports Complex. There has been some recent disagreement between the city and the school district regarding the terms of use. Initially, the City requested $2 million from the district to help with the construction costs of the sports complex. That number was then reduced to $1 million. To date, USD 446 has made no financial contributions to the construction of the facility, and the City has now changed its request to a long-term use agreement over the span of 15 years. The proposed meeting between the district and the City would be an attempt to work out the details of the agreement that would satisfy both parties.
Also on tonight's agenda is the issuance of general obligation bonds to cover costs associated with the long-term facilities needs of the city.
Tonight's meeting begins at 5:30 in the Commission Room at City Hall in Independence. The meeting is open to the public and is available for online viewing via the City's website.
