A man is dead after attempting to save a woman from drowning in southwest Missouri.
Authorities in Noel, Missouri, say the incident occurred on Sunday in the Elk River just west of the City, when a 26-year-old female kayaker went over the low-head dam and was caught in a rolling current. At that time, a 55-year-old man entered the water in an attempt to save the woman and was caught in the current as well. The woman managed to escape the current on her own and was pulled from the water by Fire and Rescue crews from the City of Noel.
A bystander pulled the man out of the water and began CPR. However, he remained unresponsive and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
No names have yet been released.
