Independence Takes over Cherryvale Police Dispatch

Cherryvale Police dispatch services are consolidated in Independence.

On July 7th, the City of Independence began dispatching the Cherryvale Police Department in addition to Fire and EMS.

Independence Mayor Scott Smith spoke before the Cherryvale City Council last night and says the collaboration has been a success.

In other businesses at last night's meeting, the council discussed a property donation to build an electric vehicle charging station at 7th and Liberty to take advantage of a grant that would reimburse all costs of the project except concrete work. Council Member Norman Johnson made a motion to accept the donation and proceed with the project, but no second was made, and the motion died.

A yearly ordinance was also passed to levy the city's cost of mowing and demolishing structures towards county taxes for individual property owners who don't pay the city, which totaled nearly $8,500.

The council also approved an easement for Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline and a street closure for the Cherryvale Public Library's Back to School Bash on August 8th that will close part of Main and Montgomery Streets for 2-3 hours.
