Multiple people are injured, including four children under the age of 10, following a Sunday afternoon car accident.
The accident occurred near the southern junction of US-160 and US-169 at around 12:15pm. A 1992 Nissan Pickup driven by 59-year-old Deloris Pomeroy of Independence was traveling southbound on US-169 when she attempted to make a left turn onto US-160. Her vehicle collided with a 2011 Kia Forte driven by 34-year-old Melissa Schmitt of Kansas City. Schmitt was uninjured, but five passengers in her vehicle received injuries, including 40-year-old Calista Durchett-Dickson and two minor children, who were all seriously injured. Two other children suffered minor injuries. Pomeroy was also seriously injured in the crash.
All of the victims were taken to Coffeyville Regional Medical Center for treatment.
