The Kansas Legislature may not currently be in session, but lawmakers are continuing to work during the summer months.
State Representative Ron Bryce has been busy this summer. Part of his official duties have included attending meetings of the Medicaid Oversight Committee. Many Kansans who have concerns about cuts in the program were also in attendance and told lawmakers about their concerns regarding cuts to benefits for disabled children. Bryce says there are no plans to cut benefits for these recipients.
Bryce says lawmakers are trying to root out fraudsters who are misusing the program.
Bryce adds that Medicaid in Kansas makes up a large part of the state budget, coming in at around $5 billion a year. The state covers around 40% of the total cost with the remaining amount covered by the federal budget.
