A Labette County Sheriff’s K9 will receive a donation of body armor.

K9 Champ will receive a bullet and stab protective vest from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s. The organization's mission is to provide these vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. The vests are made in the U.S., custom-fitted and National Institute of Justice certified.

The program is open to U.S. dogs at least 20 months old, actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States. The vest is expected to be delivered in the next ten weeks.
