Suspected Rabies Case in Marion County

A suspected rabies case is identified in a feral cat in Marion County.

The stray cat was discovered last week in a residential area at Marion County Lake. The animal was exhibiting suspicious behavior, including aggression, confusion, and stilted movement. The Marion County Health Department says the animal was likely rabid, even though it was unable to be tested. The cat has since been destroyed.

The public is encouraged to keep pets up to date on vaccinations and avoid contact with wild or feral animals. Rabies is a serious disease that can be transmitted to humans from infected animals through scratches or bites.
