Renovations may soon be coming to Shulthis Stadium, the home of IHS and ICC football, among other events.

 

The stadium has not had any field work done since it opened more than a decade ago, not including annual cleaning and inspections. USD 446 Superintendent Jason McAfee says the turf gets a lot of usage from many activities.

 

At the end of each summer, a test is performed on the field to analyze the safety and integrity of the turf for competition and use. McAfee says although they haven't failed a test, signs of wear are beginning to show.

 

A turf replacement for a football field can cost anywhere from $650,000 to upwards of one million, based on the type of turf and other details. The district currently has $600,000 put aside for any potential renovation.

 

No action was taken at the most recent school board meeting, and all sports and events at Shulthis Stadium are expected to continue uninterrupted.
