The USD 445 Coffeyville School Board will meet this afternoon and is expected to announce it will exceed the revenue-neutral rate for the coming school year.
In Kansas, the term "revenue-neutral rate" (RNR) refers to the property tax mill levy rate that would generate the exact same amount of property tax revenue as the prior year, based on the current year's assessed valuation. Essentially, it's a way to calculate the tax rate that would keep the total dollar amount of property taxes collected by a taxing jurisdiction -- such as a city, county, or school district -- unchanged from one year to the next, even if property values have shifted. To exceed the revenue-neutral rate in Kansas means that a taxing jurisdiction plans to collect more property tax revenue in the upcoming budget year than it did in the previous year.
Also on the agenda for tonight's meeting is a discussion to increase salaries for administration, directors, support staff and classified staff in the district.
Today's meeting begins at 4pm at the District Office, located at 615 Ellis Street in Coffeyville. The meeting is open to the public.
