Ninth Annual Summer Celebration Draws Crowds to Coffeyville

Another Summer Celebration is in the books.

Despite a few showers on Saturday, this year's event attracted large crowds and a record 121 vendors. The day included a 5k and 1-mile run, cornhole tournament, poker run, a car show and more. Car show organizer Curtis Foster says they had 84 cars show up and 78 entries. Foster says red cars were popular, winning most awards including the people's choice.

The entire event, including the largest fireworks show in southeast Kansas, runs entirely off donations, and the event was even bigger this year thanks to help from Dearing and South Coffeyville. Organizer Gail Smith thanked his team of volunteers at the end of the night and says he plans to continue the event for as long as possible.

Next year's Summer Celebration in scheduled for Saturday, July 11th.
