The City of Girard announces a new Assistant Chief of Police.

Derik Burke has been hired to take over as the new Assistant Police Chief. Burke comes to the job after serving 11 years with the Fort Scott Police Department. Burke is a native of Missouri, but relocated to Kansas when he began his career in law enforcement. The Girard Police Department welcomed Burke to his new leadership role, stating that his appreciation for small-town values and strong community ties made him a good fit for the department and that they look forward to Burke helping shape the future of the department as he serves the citizens of Girard.
