A fatal house fire that occurred on Tuesday in Fort Scott is under investigation by the state fire marshal's office.

Fire crews in Fort Scott were called to the 2200 block of Osage Road on Tuesday afternoon. Upon arrival, they discovered a working structure fire that involved a trapped resident with mobility difficulties. When firefighters were able to enter the structure, they found a female occupant deceased in her bed in the living room of the home. Later that evening, local authorities requested the assistance of the Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office in investigating the fire. The state Fire Marshal then sent special agents and investigators to the scene. Officials say foul play is not suspected at this time.

The investigation remains ongoing, and an autopsy of the victim is pending.
