Parsons Veterans Group Gives Update on Memorial

A Parsons veterans group has been raising funds to construct a memorial in the City and representatives from the group recently updated the Parsons City Commission on their progress.

At last night's/Monday's Commission meeting, Carl Johnson of Pathways to Freedom told commissioners that recent price increases for building materials have forced the group to extend their request for funds from $250 to $300,000. Johnson says local businesses and community members have been very generous to the project.

The group has chosen to do the contracting work on the project themselves, with Bruce Rea serving as the organizer of the effort. Rea, who taught drafting, architecture, and robotics at Parsons High School until his retirement, says the project will be built in three phases.

No action was taken at the meeting.
