The Kansas Corporation Commission approves a settlement agreement allowing Evergy to recover the costs to build two gas plants and a solar facility.
Yesterday, the K-C-C approved two settlement agreements that would allow Evergy Kansas Central to recover the costs associated with building three new generation plants intended to help meet the increasing electric demand in the State of Kansas. The new plants would also improve reliability. Evergy has plans to build the Solar Sky plant in Douglas County in northeast Kansas at a cost of $228 million. The company also plans to build two gas turbine plants in central Kansas. One would be constructed in Sumner County for $788 million and another in Reno County for $800 million. The Sumner County facility would be operational by January 1, 2029, with the Reno County plant coming online a year later.
The settlements are not expected to immediately impact rates for Evergy customers.
