Pittsburg Police Investigate Explosion at Apartment Building

Police in Pittsburg are investigating an explosion that occurred over the holiday weekend at a local apartment building.

Emergency crews were called to the scene in the 100 block of West Cleveland Street in Pittsburg around 5am on July 4th. 9-1-1 callers reported hearing a loud explosion in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered damage that included broken windows and other damage to the exterior parts of the building. An investigation led officers to a suspect who was located at a nearby residence. The suspect surrendered peacefully after a brief standoff. A search warrant served on the suspect’s residence revealed a homemade explosive device along with other evidence related to the initial report. Police have identified the suspect as 55-year-old Donovan Davis. Davis faces five felony counts including Criminal Use of Weapons, Aggravated Arson, and Aggravated Assault. He is currently being held without bond.

Authorities believe the incident may have been the result of an ongoing, personal dispute between the Davis and the victim.
