Baxter Springs Celebrates Opening of New Fire Station

The City of Baxter Springs celebrates the opening of the City’s new fire station.

On Saturday morning, Baxter Springs officially opened its new fire station at 17th and Military Avenue along historic Route 66. More than 150 residents turned out for the ribbon cutting ceremony on the $3.4 million facility. The new station includes a fully equipped bunk room for the use of firefighters working 24-hour shifts, a kitchen for meal preparation, and a conference room. The facility will also give fire crews more room for storing important equipment and supplies.

The new fire station was paid for without requiring the City to use tax money or to take on new debt. Grant money was obtained for the project through the efforts of the Baxter Springs City Council along with help from State Senator Tim Shallenburger and former Kansas Congressman Jake LaTurner.

The new facility replaces the old city fire station that was built in 1926.
