A head-on collision in Norton County on Friday afternoon leaves a Nebraska man dead and five other people injured.
The accident occurred just before 3pm on July 4th, about 8 miles west of the City of Norton or about 12 miles south of the Kansas/Nebraska state line. 21-year-old Darian Marston of McCook, Nebraska, was traveling eastbound along the highway when his vehicle hydroplaned, causing him to lose control. His car crossed the center line and struck another vehicle head-on. Marston suffered fatal injuries in the crash, while a female passenger in his car was seriously hurt. She was taken to the Norton County Hospital and then later transferred to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney (CAR-knee), Nebraska.
The occupants of the other vehicle included 50-year-old David Chapell, 45-year-old Lynn Chapell, an 11-year-old female – all of Augusta – and 79-year-old Dixie Lebreau of Maize. All four sustained minor injuries and were taken to the Norton hospital for treatment.
