A 21-year old intern in a Kansas Congressman's Washington office was shot and killed Monday after gunmen opened fire on multiple people.
Eric Tarpinian-Jachym was not the target of the shooters, who emerged from a vehicle at 7th and M streets NW in Washington D.C. and began firing around 10:30 p.m. Monday night, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. Also hit were a woman and 16-year-old boy, both of whom survived.
Tarpinian-Jachym was a senior at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst who was majoring in fincance with a minor in political science. He had been working in the office of Kansas Representative Ron Estes during the summer.
Estes released a statement, saying "I will remember his kind heart and how he always greeted anyone with a cheerful smile. We are grateful to Eric for his service to Kansas' 4th District and the country."
Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrests and convictions of the gunmen.
