It's a historic day for the Chanute Police Department.

Today, for the first time in the department’s history, an all-female shift took to the streets. The three officers were Supervisor Ornelas, who has been with Chanute PD for six years, Officer Cavender, serving for two years and K9 Handler Goodwin, who has served for three years.

Chanute PD says they are proud of the women who put on the badge and answered the call. They say this isn't just about today but about the path they’ve paved for future generations.
