New Fireworks Rules in Effect Across Kansas

This will be the first Independence Day in Kansas under new rules allowing year-round fireworks sales in Kansas for permanent retailers.

Kansas State Senator Virgil Peck says Jake's Fireworks started in Pittsburg and is the largest retailer of fireworks in the country, so it made sense to allow them to be sold year-round.

Peck says sales are allowed for seasonal fireworks retailers now through July 7th, although local governments are still allowed to restrict sales.

Local governments can also restrict the discharge of fireworks in addition to sales.  In Coffeyville, Fireworks can only be sold and shot off between July 1st and 4th.  Fireworks in Independence can be sold between now and July 7th, but can only be shot off between July 1st and 5th.
