Box Truck Strikes Bridge, Closes MO Highway

A box truck collided with a railroad bridge yesterday afternoon, closing the highway for a brief time.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident took place around 3:00 p.m., when the box truck struck the Burlington Northern railroad overpass on K Highway near Seneca. The box truck was traveling north and struck and broke off the protective I-Beam. The beam was laying on the top of the box truck. The truck suffered damaged on the top of the vehicle; the height of the underpass is listed as 10’10” high.

Burlington Northern Railroad inspected the bridge and it was deemed safe for train and vehicle traffic. The driver was cited and placed out of service during the ongoing investigation.

MSHP, Seneca Rural Fire and Newton County Deputies responded to the accident.
