Former Custodian Requests Change of Venue

A former McDonald County school custodian, accused of invasion of privacy, requests a change of venue in his case.

Yesterday morning, the attorney for 53-year-old Rodger Copeland requested the change from McDonald County Judge Charles Genisio. There was no objection from the special prosecutor.

Because the county has less than 75,000 residents, defendants in any criminal case in Missouri is granted a change of venue without showing cause.

Copeland is charged with five counts of invasion of privacy; authorities say students found a hidden camera in a girl’s locker room at McDonald County High School in September. No inappropriate images were found on the camera. Copeland was a custodian at the high school at the time of his arrest.

Copeland's next court date is scheduled for July 29th. If a new location hasn't been selected by that date, a decision for the new location would be made then.
