The City of Coffeyville is getting closer and closer to being able to hire a new animal control officer. City Manager Ben Brubaker says the position has been open for several weeks.

A company from Ohio, who specializes in code enforcement and animal control, is coming out at the end of July to do training for the new employee and the two current code enforcement employees. Brubaker says even with these changes it won't fully solve the stray dog issue.

Brubaker says they've had multiple meetings with the Coffeyville Friends of Animals Shelter to discuss ways the city might be able to help further with what they already accomplish.
