Pittsburg State University Names New President

 

 Pittsburg State University has a new president.

 The Kansas Board of Regents approved Dr. Thomas W. Newsom during a special meeting Friday.

 Newsom is currently the President of Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma.

 Previous experience includes serving as Vice President of Student Success at Texas A&M-Commerce and as President of Mesalands Community College in New Mexico, achieving statewide and national recognition for growth and student success.

 Newsom currently serves as chair of the Regional University System of Oklahoma President’s Council and treasurer of the Oklahoma Council of Presidents.

 A native of Sherman, Texas, Newsom holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of North Texas. He and his wife, Vicky, have three children.

 Newsom takes over for Interim President Doug Ball. He will be introduced to the community during a press conference this afternoon.
