Bartlesville Man Charged With Child Abuse

A Bartlesville man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly providing improper care for a child.

28-year-old Matthew Lenard was charged Friday with two counts of child abuse.

According to the Bartlesville Police Department, officers responded to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa March 9th for an injured child. The victim had fractures in the right arm, left leg and a right rib, plus multiple bruises and scratches.

In an interview, Lenard told authorities that the victim would fall out of his lap, and he would catch the child with one hand. Lenard allegedly caused bruising on the victim's face when he squeezed them to force their mouth open and feed them.

BPD says the victim was returned to Safe Haven Child Development Center May 28th, with bruising and purple marks on the victim's hands, and marks on the victim's neck and jaw.

When admitted to St. Francis May 30th, doctors raised concerns regarding the child's weight.

Lenard will appear in court again July 11th; he posted a $50,000 bond.
