Wilson County Rural Fire responds to two fires over the weekend.
The first happened around 4:30 on Friday when county units were paged out to a wheat field on fire southwest of Fredonia. Due to the muddy conditions, a smaller one-ton unit was used to navigate the excessive mud that the larger trucks were having a hard time getting around in. There was no loss to the standing wheat or combine.
Then on Sunday, units responded to a tree on fire west of Neodesha. The fire department wants to remind everyone that as Independence Day approaches, it's not a good idea to shoot fireworks at trees and caution should be exercised when using fireworks around wheat fields.
