Search Suspended for Child Hit By Train Near Erie Until River Level Drops

The search for 12-year-old Kollin Showwalter of Erie has been suspended after another day of searching today.

Showwalter and 16-year-old Arthur Pollries of Walnut were hit by a train late last week as they were trying to get off a railroad trestle bridge over the Neosho River.

According to Neosho County Sheriff Greg Taylor, first responders have utilized drones, planes, helicopters, boats, sonar systems, divers, law enforcement K9s, cadaver dogs and shoreline search crews over the last several days without luck.  Taylor says this has been a disheartening experience and that water levels began to rise and the current increased this afternoon, causing the search to be suspended.

Taylor says their thoughts and prayers are with both families of this tragedy and are still hopeful that the child will be found once the river drops to a favorable level.

A memorial fund has been set up to help the families.  Anyone interested in donating can contact any local Commercial Bank branch within the next month.
