UPDATE: Two Juveniles Hit By Train South of Erie

The Neosho County Sheriff's Department releases more information on the train accident involving two juveniles.

Sheriff Greg Taylor says his office responded to a call around 12:40 p.m. yesterday afternoon to the railroad trestle bridge over the Neosho River near 115th Road. Two juveniles were walking along the bridge and were unable to outrun the train. The KHP says both of the juveniles, 16-year-old Arthur Pollries, of Walnut, and 12-year-old Kollin Showwalter, of Erie, died on the scene, and while one boy has been found, the other is still missing.

Authorities have notified the families. The Sheriff's Office says the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Kansas Highway Patrol are assisting with a drone and boat, a helicopter and search dogs. A specialized swift water team is also aiding in the search.

The Neosho River is rising and expected to reach minor flood stage by 1 p.m. this afternoon, making search efforts more challenging. Taylor asks that the public avoid the area to allow search efforts to continue.

The Neosho County Sheriff’s Office and EMS, along with members of the St. Paul Fire and Erie Fire, and Union Pacific Railroad responded to the accident.
