Today is Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.
In Parsons, today kicks off an entire weekend of events to mark the occasion. Juneteenth Organizer Sontana Johnson says events will start with a parade this morning.
Johnson says there will be a lot of local talent on display.
Events continue tomorrow with a walk down Central at 10 a.m., an artwalk at the Arboretum and a community picnic from 5 to 8 p.m. at Glenwood Park.
Johnson says there will be many family activities on Saturday starting at 10 at Glenwood Park.
The weekend wraps up with Church in Forest Park at 10 on Sunday. It all happens in Parsons.
