Two Juveniles Hit By Train South of Erie

Two juveniles are allegedly hit by a train south of Erie and the search continues for one of the victims.

The Neosho County Sheriff's Office says their office responded to a call around 12:40 p.m. this afternoon.   Sheriff Greg Taylor says two juveniles were walking along the railroad trestle bridge over the Neosho River and were hit by a train.  One juvenile's body was recovered and authorities are searching for the second juvenile.  As of 8 p.m. this evening, the search continues.  Authorities have notified the families.  The Sheriff's Office says the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Kansas Highway Patrol are helping in the search.

The Neosho River is rising and expected to reach minor flood stage by 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, making search efforts more challenging. Taylor asks that the public avoid the area to allow search efforts to continue.
