A state senator from Overland Park announces her bid to be the Democrat candidate for Kansas Governor.
Cindy Holscher announced her candidacy yesterday, becoming the first Democrat to enter the race. Holscher says she plans to focus on what she calls “kitchen table” issues such as education and the state's financial future, as well as reproductive rights, Medicaid expansion, and medical marijuana. Holscher began her political career in the Kansas House in 2016 and then moved into the state Senate in 2020.
While Holscher is the only Democrat to announce her candidacy so far, she joins several Republicans who are seeking the nomination of their party. Those include Secretary of State Scott Schwab, former Governor Jeff Colyer, former Johnson County Commissioner Charlotte O'Hara, businesswoman Stacy Rogers, conservative podcaster Doug Billings, and Wichita School Board member Joy Elkins.
Kansans will head to the polls to select a new governor on November 3, 2026.
