The Cowley County Sheriff's Office announces that human remains have been found near where a missing Overland Park woman's abandoned car was discovered last month.
81-year-old Jerry McConnell was last seen on May 15th when her car was spotted by a FLOCKS camera entering Cowley County. Her car was then found abandoned in a rural area of the county just north of US-160, about 15 miles west of Moline. Multiple searches were conducted, but those efforts were officially called off on June 5 after no evidence of McConnell was found. Cowley County asked homeowners in the area to continue searching outbuildings and other locations.
On Wednesday, one of those homeowners found property belonging to McConnell. The investigation led to the discovery of human remains nearby. An autopsy is pending to confirm the identity as McConnell.
