Independence City Commission Appoints New Board Members, Vacates Portion of City Street

The Independence City Commission makes quick work of a lengthy agenda at this week's meeting.

Commissioners considered a request from a resident to vacate a portion of North 5th Street north of Sycamore. Assistant City Manager David Cowan says that part of the street is no longer in use and is becoming a problem in the neighborhood.

Commissioners voted to vacate the roadway while maintaining an easement for utility access.

In other business, commissioners approved several appointments to fill vacant seats on a variety of boards. Those appointments included Anita Chappuie to the Planning and Zoning Appeals Board; Tanner McClure to the Rec Commission; Steven McBride and Edward Epp to the Park Board; Carolyn Torrance to the Library Board; Amy Hilyard and Leslie Woods to the Tree Board; Jeri Hammerschmidt to the Land Bank Board; and April Nutt, Lisa Wilson, and Tabitha Snodgrass to the Farmers and Makers Market Board.
