A Commerce man is sentenced to 20 years in prison in the death of an infant.
30-year-old Michael David Gregory received the sentence this week in Ottawa County, Oklahoma, after pleading guilty in March to voluntary manslaughter in Indian Country in the death of 10-week-old Amaya Mae Robison. Gregory also entered a guilty plea of assault resulting in serious bodily harm for the assault of the infant's twin sister.
Gregory was the caregiver for the two infants on December 1, 2022, when he called his girlfriend who was the children's mother to tell her that one of the twins had stopped breathing. Doctors later discovered the baby had suffered severe brain and eye injuries that led to her death.
In 2023 Gregory was also indicted in a federal court because the two victims were native. As a part of the plea agreement, that federal charge was dropped.
