As the Fourth of July is less than a month away, the Independence Rotary Club is approaching the halfway mark in its fundraising efforts for this year's fireworks.

 

This is the third year that Rotary has taken over the fundraiser and organization of the event, and member Fred Meier says they're looking to raise $21,000.

 

While the price may seem high, Meier says the fireworks create a special atmosphere like nothing else.

 

As of Tuesday, $9,311 has been raised so far. Anyone interested in donating can mail a check payable to the Community Foundation for Independence with “Fireworks” in the Memo line to PO Box 41 in Independence. Donations can also be submitted online HERE.
