The Cherokee Nation has announced plans to take over operations of the Claremore Indian Hospital on October 1st.
Part of the plans for the facility include a discontinuation of inpatient services. The Cherokee Nation says it will build a new $255 million outpatient facility with an emergency room. This will replace the current inpatient hospital that is currently under the operation of the Indian Health Service. It is the only federally run healthcare facility for Native Americans in the Cherokee Nation.
Cherokee Nation Health Services plans to offer current employees at the facility jobs with the Cherokee Nation. Layoffs are not planned for the facility.
The new outpatient facility is slated to open in 2027.
