Despite the loss of grant funding, Caney USD-436 is looking to continue the ACES program for the 2025-2026 school year and into the summer of next year.
A.C.E.S is a kindergarten through 6th grade after school program that provides academic and relationship building skills after the normal school day. Students have the opportunity to work on homework and receive help from certified teachers, para-professionals, community volunteers and tutors.
USD-436 Superintendent Blake Vargas says the program will happen in one form or another in the upcoming school year.
The ACES program is in cooperation with the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Kansas. Vargas says the program goes beyond just child care.
School officials are currently working to secure grant funding for the ACES program, and expect to give an update on the status of the program during the July USD-436 board meeting.
