Early Morning Fire in Independence

 

***UPDATED at 8:00 am****

 

Crews from Independence Fire and EMS along with Dearing Fire, responded to a structure fire early this morning at the corner of 18th and Myrtle in Independence.

The initial reports came in around 4:15 this morning. Fire crews arrived on the scene to find a garage fully engulfed in flames and extending to a vehicle parked near the structure. Firefighters pulled two hose lines and had the blaze under control in about 15 minutes. Reports indicate that one dog perished in the fire, but there were no injuries to residents or firefighters.
 

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation by Independence Fire/EMS and the Independence Police Department.
