Independence resident stops fire from spreading to neighbor's house.
At 8:45am this morning, Independence firefighters were dispatched to 614 South 4th for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found a two story brick home with smoke coming from the porch area. A neighbor who noticed the fire was able to get a garden hose and keep the fire from extending into the home.
After the investigation, it was discovered that a heat lamp on the porch caused the fire. IFD says to remember to always unplug extension cords and heat lamps when leaving the residence. There were no injuries during this incident.
