The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued a stream advisory for the Walnut River south of El Dorado in Butler County.

 

The advisory applies to the Walnut River from US-54 to Turkey Creek. K-D-H-E issued the advisory due to untreated wastewater from a damaged pipe flowing into the river. The City of El Dorado is currently working to repair the pipe and stop the flow of wastewater.

 

K-D-H-E advises that the stream may contain elevated levels of E. coli and other contaminants. Area residents should avoid entering the water.

 

The advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
