KCC Schedules Public Hearings on Evergy Rate Hike Request

The Kansas Corporation Commission announces it will hold public hearings in the coming weeks to allow Evergy customers the chance to learn more, ask questions, and express concerns about the company's recent request for a rate increase.

Evergy filed an application with the K-C-C in January for a $196.4 million rate increase. If approved the 8.6% increase would take effect in September, resulting in an average monthly increase of about $13 a month for residential customers.

Customers may attend in person or virtually via Zoom. Those who want to participate virtually must register by noon on the day before the hearing. The hearings will be broadcast live on the K-C-C's YouTube channel. Registration is not required for those attending in person or watching online.

The first hearing will be held on June 11 at Lowe Auditorium Hughes Metropolitan Complex at Wichita State University at 6pm. The second hearing will be on June 16 at the Washburn Institute of Technology in Topeka.

The Commission will also accept written comments through 5pm on July 14 with a decision expected by September 29.
