Montgomery County Sheriff Warns of New Scam

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a new scam circulating in the area.

This is a phone scam in which the caller claims to be Deputy Tim Melton with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. The scammer then demands money via CashApp in order for the victim to avoid an arrest warrant for Contempt of Court.

Sheriff Ron Wade reminds residents that the Sheriff's Office will never call to request money in order to resolve legal issues. Anyone receiving a call like this is advised not to send money or give out personal information. For those who are unsure if a call is legitimate, hang up and call the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office at 620-330-1000 to verify.
