Flooding Around Southeast KS, Northeast OK

 

Flood warnings are in effect around the KGGF listening area this morning.

 

Chautauqua County is under a flood warning through 8 this morning. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. As of 9 last night, flooding was observed in the warned area due to the runoff of heavy rainfall. This will impact Sedan, Cedar Vale, Peru, Chautauqua, Niotaze and Hale.

 

Flood warnings continue along the Neosho River in Neosho, Allen, Labette and Cherokee Counties in Kansas and Ottawa County in Oklahoma.

 

Minor flooding is occurring and forecast on the Neosho River near Chanute, which is expected to crest at 27.2 feet just after midnight tonight. Flood stage is 23 feet, but water is not expected to cross old Highway 169, which occurs at 28.5 feet.

 

Further south, moderate flooding is forecast on the Neosho River near Oswego from this evening to early Sunday morning. The river is expected to crest at 21.5 feet tomorrow night and then fall below flood stage late Saturday morning. At 21 feet, Xavier Road leading north from the river gauge bridge floods in that immediate vicinity. Also, 13,000 Road along the north side of the river bank floods. West of the town of Faulkner, homes along 120th Street between Star Road and Clem Road begin to flood.

 

Ottawa County in Oklahoma is also under a flood warning. The Neosho River at Commerce is expected to crest at 19.5 feet tomorrow morning. At 19 feet, low-lying areas around Miami become cut off from easy access. Riverview Park experiences moderate flooding. State Highway 125 near the fairgrounds will be threatened.
