The Independence City Commission changes course on the new fireworks ordinance in the city.

 

At a special commission meeting earlier this morning, commissioners considered a change to the ordinance passed at the last meeting in May.

 

City Manager Kelly Passauer says the city staff recommends a change to extend sales dates to June 20 through July 7^th while limiting the discharge dates.

 

Commissioner Dean Hayse says it makes sense to defer to the state on sales dates while listening to citizen concerns about noise.

 

The commission voted unanimously to set sales dates for June 20 through July 7^th while the legal dates for setting off fireworks will be July 1^st through July 5^th
