The May tax receipts for the State of Kansas come in above estimates.
Total tax revenues for the state during the month of May are just over $657 million, a number that is 32% above estimates, but down very slightly from May 2024. Individual income tax collections rose significantly by 85% above estimates and 35% higher than a year ago. Retail sales taxes were 4% more than estimated, with no change from 2024. Corporate receipts were the only measure that came in below estimates. Those numbers were off by about 3% and were down 27% from this time last year.
Governor Laura Kelly called the report a positive indicator but also noted that the state government must remain diligent and focused on maintaining the state's financial health.
